Research goals and outcome
Twenty artists and scientists from Europe and Canada met in Athens in April 2014 and collaborated in a workshop as a step towards creating a series of interactive artworks and investigating the creative potential of the fulldome, within the context of the E / M / D /L project.
For this second workshop an inflatable dome was transported from the University of Plymouth in the UK to the Project Room of the National Museum of Contemporary Art (EMST) in Athens, and the participants explored the applications of the medium for digital and performing arts.
On the last day of the workshop, artistic projects were presented to the public in the inflatable dome. On the same day, a symposium on “Artistic creation in immersive environments, using large-scale display technologies” was held, where the artists and scientists participating in the project E / M / D / L were brought together with Greek experts in the field of virtual reality, large scale projection systems and cultural production.
The workshop, as well as the symposium and the presentation of artistic works in the dome, were organized by the Laboratory of New Technologies in Communication, Education and the Mass Media of the Faculty of Communication and Media Studies of the University of Athens and the EMST.
